Betty Ernestine Holloway Coe (1929 - 2018) *NEED MORE INFORMATION*










 Betty is by far the biggest mystery in terms of validating information. 

She was born September 28, 1929 in Columbus, Georgia and according to her testament when she was alive, told to multiple children and grandchildren - she was born to Nannie Lois Martin and Leon Bagley Holloway. However, Leon and Lois were married in 1931 and in 1930, Lois is listed as living with her father and there is no mention or record of Betty being in the household. The question is - was she there and Betty not reported because she was born out of wedlock? That wouldn't make total sense because also in the home were Inez (Lois's sister) and Inez's husband, Willis L. Holloway, along with their 6 month old son, Junior. However, it may just not have been reported. The 1930 census also reports Lois as being 15 and her sister, Francis, being 19. But after reviewing the DOB for both women, Lois would have been 19 and Francis would have been 14/15 depending on the exact date of the census. Additionally, Leon was reported on the 1930 census as living with his family and there not being a Betty reported. 

Additionally, Betty claimed that while Lois and Leon were her parents, she was mainly raised by Marie and Louie after leaving home when she was very young. 

Ten years later, Betty appears as Bettie on the 1940 census and reported as Marie & Louie H Coe's child. This is the first recorded we actually have of Betty as we do not currently have a copy of her birth certificate to reference. 

From there, residency is established in Columbus by way of city directory records and we know that Betty was a spinner at a factory in Columbus. Possibly the Perkins Hosiery Mill or another textile mill in the area during that time. 

In 1944, Betty gave birth to Patricia Ann. A Birth Certificate is pending to validate if Patricia's biological father was Eddie B. 

In July 1947, Betty married Eddie B. Coe of Woodbury Georgia in Chambers County Alabama. On the Marriage certificate, her parents are listed as Louie H. Ernestine & Marie Martin. However, we have not been able to "see" the certificate, only the text translation, so it is possible that information was misprinted when it was interpreted. We cannot find any record on a Louie H. Ernestine. 

In 1948, Betty gave birth to another daughter, Katheryn. Katheryn married Raeford Scoggins and died in 1972 at 24 years old. 

In 1949, Betty gave birth to her first son, James Edward. 

In 1952, Betty gave birth to a second son and final child, Emory Lee.

We are in need of any information on Betty and her relationship with Lois, Leon, Louie and Marie.

Nannie Lois Martin Holloway is recorded as Betty's biological mom, only by her living testament told to multiple children and grandchildren. Betty always claimed that Marie raised her and Lois died when she was "young". John Robert Martin (1847 - 1943)

John Robert was born to 1874 to William Washington Martin and Francis A Hinton.  He married Ennis Belk in December of 1900 and they had several children together. 1902 - Nimmons Gladies (son) 1904 - Marie (daughter) 1906 - Inez (daughter) 1908 - Hester (daughter) 1909 - Lois (daughter) In 1910, the census shows the family all living together in Kinchafoonee, Marion County Georgia. 1916 - Eula Francis (daughter) was born In 1917, John Robert experienced the death of his wife, Ennis as well as his mother, Francis. It is also documented that at this time the family was living in Columbus. In 1918, John Robert registered for the World War I draft at 44 years old. He was listed as being a cotton mill operator at Perkins Hosiery Mill in Columbus, Georgia and living at 2803 Pierpont Avenue. This is located at the current intersection of Pierpont & Warm Springs Road.
