John Robert Martin (1847 - 1943)

John Robert was born to 1874 to William Washington Martin and Francis A Hinton. 

He married Ennis Belk in December of 1900 and they had several children together.

1906 - Inez (daughter)

1908 - Hester (daughter)

1909 - Lois (daughter)

In 1910, the census shows the family all living together in Kinchafoonee, Marion County Georgia.

1916 - Eula Francis (daughter) was born

In 1917, John Robert experienced the death of his wife, Ennis as well as his mother, Francis. It is also documented that at this time the family was living in Columbus.

In 1918, John Robert registered for the World War I draft at 44 years old. He was listed as being a cotton mill operator at Perkins Hosiery Mill in Columbus, Georgia and living at 2803 Pierpont Avenue. This is located at the current intersection of Pierpont & Warm Springs Road.

In 1930, on the next census, John Robert was listed as head of household and renting a home which housed Francis (15), Lois (19), Inez (24), Willis Holloway (Inez's husband, 26) and his grandson, Junior Holloway (6 months). John Robert was a farmer at this time and the home was on Buena Vista Road in Schley County. None of the females were reported as working but both John Robert and Willis were farmers. Willis and Inez had been married in 1928. Both Lois and Francis were listed as Single. 

In 1936, John Robert's father, William Washington Martin, passed away in Buena Vista.

By 1940, John Robert was both widowed and unable to work. He was a dependent in Willis & Inez's home along with Junior and Francis. Lois had married Leon Holloway, Willis's brother, earlier in the decade.

In 1943, John Robert died. Georgia Death Certificate #22688
