Nannie Lois (Martin) Holloway

Nannie Lois Martin Holloway is recorded as Betty's biological mom, only by her living testament told to multiple children and grandchildren. Betty always claimed that Marie raised her and Lois died when she was "young".

Lois was born in 1909 to John Robert Martin and Ennis (Belk) Martin.

She had a couple of sisters and at least one brother. Marie, Gladys, Mamie & John Robert.

Betty was born in September 1929. She would have been born out of wedlock to Lois and in 1930, Lois is documented as living on Buena Vista Road in Schley County, Georgia with her father John (56), sister Francis (reported as 19, but was 15), her sister Inez (23), Inez's husband, Willis L. Holloway (26) and her nephew Junior (6 months). Lois was not working at this time and was reported as being single. No children belonging to Lois were mentioned.

In the 1930 report, Lois and Francis's ages are believed to have been misreported. Lois was reported as being 15 and Francis as 19, but Francis would have been 15 and Lois 19 according to the recorded DOB in other documents.

In 1940, Lois (29) ws living on Tazwell Road in the Buena Vista district of Marion County. She was married to Leon Bagley Holloway (32) and listed as having three children - Gladys (8), Mamie Jewel (5) and John Robert (1). Lois did not work and Leon was recorded as working in "pulpwood". There is no mention of Betty in this report either.

Lois died at 40 years old in 1949. She is buried with Leon at the Brantley UMC Cemetery in Marion County, Georgia. A death certificate has not been obtained and we are unsure why she died.

We believe Marie, Gladys and Mamie have passed away and have been unsuccessful locating John Robert. We are interested in hearing from any of their decedents on what information they may have regarding Lois's death, her marriage to Leon and her relationship with Betty.
